Fourteen youngsters have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after the demise of a 14-year-old boy in a fireplace at an industrial unit.
A physique, believed to be that of Layton Carr, who had been reported lacking, was discovered contained in the constructing.
Northumbria Police have been known as to Fairfield industrial park within the Invoice Quay space of Gateshead on Friday night.
Eleven boys and three ladies aged between 11 and 14 have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and stay in police custody.
A police assertion mentioned: “Shortly after 8pm yesterday (Friday), we acquired a report through the fireplace service of a fireplace close to Fairfield industrial park within the Invoice Quay space of Gateshead.
“Emergency companies attended, and the fireplace was extinguished a short while later.
“Subsequently final night time we issued an enchantment for lacking boy Layton Carr – it was believed he was within the space on the time.
“Sadly, following searches carried out by Northumbria Police and companions at Tyne and Put on Hearth and Rescue Service, a physique believed to be that of 14-year-old Layton Carr was situated deceased contained in the constructing.
“His subsequent of kin have been knowledgeable and are presently being supported by specialist officers.”
