A faculty in West Haven canceled lessons on Friday after an incident with a squirrel led to a hearth and energy outage within the constructing.
May V. Carrigan Intermediate School misplaced energy on Thursday morning when a squirrel got here into contact with an influence line and landed on a transformer, which led to a small hearth in an unused space of the college, West Haven Public Schools stated in a press release. Members of the West Haven Fire Department responded to deal with the hearth.
Based on faculty officers, the constructing was evacuated. The college teaches grades 5 and 6.
“At no time was there any risk to the security of scholars or employees. Everyone seems to be protected and accounted for,” the district stated.
The college had no energy instantly following the hearth due to a tripped breaker that was related to a generator, faculty officers stated. The constructing’s services crew tried resetting the breaker, and college students and employees have been allowed to reenter the college.
Faculty officers stated energy to the third ground was not restored after the reset. College students have been dismissed early for the day earlier than the district introduced that lessons can be canceled on Friday.
A brand new circuit breaker is anticipated to be put in over the weekend. Lessons are anticipated to renew as regular on Monday.
