(Reuters) – Google agreed to pay $50 million to settle a lawsuit accusing the search engine firm of systemic racial bias towards Black workers.
A preliminary settlement overlaying greater than 4,000 Google workers in California and New York was filed on Thursday night within the Oakland, California federal court docket, and requires a decide’s approval.
Plaintiffs within the proposed class motion stated Google has a “racially biased company tradition” the place administration steers Blacks to lower-level jobs, pays them much less, downgrades their efficiency scores and denies them alternatives to advance.
