“The Panama Canal is just not within the strategy of being restored, and that is actually not the duty that was even mentioned in our conversations with [Secretary of State] Rubio or anybody else,” Panama President José Raúl Mulino stated in a put up on X. “I reject, on behalf of Panama and all Panamanians, this new affront to the reality and to our dignity as a nation.
“It has nothing to do with the ‘restoration of the Canal’ or with tarnishing our nationwide sovereignty,” he added. “The Canal is Panamanian and can proceed to be Panamanian!”
