Winnipeg metropolis councillor Jason Schreyer has died.
Schreyer had represented the Elmwood-East Kildonan ward since 2014, when he unseated incumbent Thomas Steen. He was re-elected in 2018 and 2022.
He was the son of Ed Schreyer, Manitoba’s sixteenth premier and Governor-Common of Canada from 1979-1984.
In an announcement Thursday morning, Schreyer’s fellow councillors stated he served his constituents with “ardour and conviction”.
“He was a robust and impartial voice within the Council chamber, all the time targeted on combating for the residents of his neighborhood and retaining life inexpensive for Winnipeggers,” the assertion stated.

“Past politics, Jason introduced pleasure and creativity to these round him. He had a love of music, usually being the primary to seize the mic at karaoke, delighting colleagues with performances at nationwide conferences, sharing his skills in a number of languages at Folklorama, and even providing a track as a prayer initially of council conferences.”
Metropolis council was scheduled to fulfill at 9:30 Wednesday morning. The assembly was abruptly adjourned earlier than any agenda objects had been mentioned. Many councillors had been visibly emotional, with some tearing up.
Flags at Metropolis Corridor have been lowered to half-mast.
