New Brunswick has signed a $32-million settlement with the federal authorities to enhance entry to chose medication for uncommon ailments.
Federal Well being Minister Mark Holland says one in 12 Canadians is recognized with a uncommon illness, and the price of remedy for many of those is unaffordable.
New Brunswick Well being Minister John Dornan welcomed the funding, saying that as an endocrinologist he has seen sufferers with uncommon ailments whose remedy choices are restricted due to the complexity of the ailment, restricted analysis and the price of medication.

He says the funding settlement will see New Brunswick obtain $10.8 million per yr for the subsequent three years to enhance entry to new and present medication, and to enhance screening and diagnostics for uncommon ailments.
The funding introduced immediately will cowl the price of three medication for uncommon cancers and a drug to deal with a uncommon kidney illness.
Dornan says the 4 illnesses have been chosen over others as a result of they “needed to begin someplace,” and the drugs for these ailments are costly.
