Nova Scotia is reporting a drop of 35 per cent within the variety of hours emergency departments had been closed throughout the province.
A brand new provincial report says that between April 2023 and the tip of March 2024, ERs had been closed for 51,552 hours.
That’s down from 79,813 closure hours within the earlier 12-month interval.

Within the newest report, launched in late December, there have been 28,171 hours throughout which ERs couldn’t open as a result of they didn’t have sufficient workers to soundly function — down from 41,923 hours over the prior 12 months.
The report says health-care employee recruitment and retention efforts have been ongoing to scale back staffing shortages in ERs.
And whereas issues are enhancing, ER closures attributable to a scarcity of employees represented 55 per cent of all closures between April 2023 and March 2024.
Over that 12-month interval, Nova Scotia emergency rooms had been open for 87 per cent of their official working hours.
