Ontario’s police watchdog says they’re investigating after a 33-year-old man died whereas within the custody of York Regional Police on Wednesday morning.
The Particular Investigations Unit (SIU) stated officers arrested the person on Tuesday in relation to an arrest warrant for breach of probation. He was taken into custody and put in a cell at a police station in Richmond Hill.

On Wednesday, at round 1 a.m., the SIU stated the person’s situation was “assessed as severe.” After officers offered medical consideration, the SIU stated paramedics had been referred to as.
The person was taken to hospital the place he died, the SIU stated.
The SIU is an impartial company that investigates the conduct of officers in incidents which have resulted in demise, severe damage or alleged sexual assault.
