Former Vice President Mike Pence stated it was “notably admirable” that Vice President Kamala Harris oversaw certification of the 2024 presidential election, which she misplaced to President-elect Donald Trump.
“The peaceable switch of energy is the hallmark of our democracy and at this time, members of each events within the Home and Senate together with the vice chairman licensed the election of our new president and vice chairman with out controversy or objection,” Pence declared Monday in a publish on X.
He congratulated Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance on their victory, and hailed the “return of order and civility” to the certification course of.

“I additionally commend the members of the Home, Senate and the Vice President who did their obligation underneath the Structure of the US, it being notably admirable that Vice President Harris would preside over the certification of a presidential election that she misplaced,” Pence famous.
After Trump and Pence misplaced the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, then-Vice President Pence presided over the certification throughout a joint session of Congress in 2021 that was briefly interrupted because of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Pence, who mounted then later dropped a GOP presidential main bid in 2023, didn’t endorse Trump in 2024.

The final time a sitting vice chairman who misplaced a presidential bid presided over the certification of their very own presidential election loss was in 2001, after outgoing Democratic Vice President Al Gore misplaced to Republican George W. Bush within the 2000 White Home contest.
