A New York City man allegedly took his SUV on an intoxicated joyride alongside prepare tracks that ended with the car catching hearth, police stated.
Basilio Hidalgo, 40, was arrested and charged after he drove an SUV onto the Lengthy Island Rail Street (LIRR) and precipitated a fiery scene after the car’s tires caught hearth at round 4:52 p.m. Sunday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Division stated in a release.
Photographs of the crash aftermath confirmed Hidalgo’s SUV being lifted with a crane from the prepare tracks.
The MTAPD stated Hidalgo drove roughly “half a mile east” on the tracks earlier than stopping after two tires of the vehicle turned “severely broken” and ignited.
“Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Division officers noticed a black Honda sport utility car stopped on the Essential Line tracks of the LIRR between Bellerose and Floral Park Stations,” MTAPD stated.
“Detectives decided the alleged suspect drove onto the LIRR Essential Line tracks from grade stage, west of the Elmont-UBS Area station.”
The driving force finally stopped “simply east of the Bellerose Station” because the fire started.
In a viral video of the incident, the SUV is seen careening throughout the tracks.

Police said Hildago was arrested and brought into custody with out incident.
Hidalgo was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree felony trespassing and driving whereas intoxicated.
