The Tofino Harbour Authority has closed its workplace quickly and plans to put in gates on the Armitage Level dock the place it claims the float home residents are squatting.
Float dwelling resident Marcel Theriault says his household has lived there since 2012 below a sublease settlement with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).
However the harbour authority says that sublease was not renewed final 12 months.
“The state of affairs, which has been unresolved for over two years, escalated lately,” the harbour authority stated.

“The squatter has refused to vacate the premises, disrupting vital harbour authority operations.”
However the float dwelling’s residents say they’re being handled unfairly.
“There’s been little or no communication with the harbour, solely threats, and now it’s come to this the place we’ve obtained a letter of banishment,” Theriault stated.
“We’re simply fully perplexed how this might escalate so quickly, with such large drastic penalties and these letters saying we’re some type of menace to the harbour,” added resident Joanne Streetly.
The household says it has had its electrical energy disconnected, and is being fined $500 per day till they vacate.
The harbour authority, in the meantime, expressed frustration with what is known as sluggish response from regulation enforcement and authorities companies.
The DFO stated it’s conscious of the state of affairs and can proceed to help the harbour authority as it really works to resolve the difficulty.
